Full Celebration After Victory for Norwegian Fjord

Friends of the Earth Norway and Young Friends of the Earth Norway have won their case that the permit for mining operations with sea tailings disposal in the Førdefjord is invalid. Borgarting Court of Appeal confirmed this yesterday evening in its ruling in “ The Norwegian Fjord Lawsuit.”

A Historic Victory – Could Save Førdefjorden

Today, the EFTA Court delivered its judgement on the dispute in the Førdefjorden case. The court has ruled that economic considerations alone are not sufficient grounds to permit pollution of a fjord like Førdefjorden.

Support from the EU Commission and ESA

Both the European Commission and the EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) support environmental organizations in the Førdefjord lawsuit ahead of the autumn hearing in the EFTA Court.

The fight for the fjord continues

Last week, our battle for Førdefjorden was lost in court. Additionally, both Friends of the Earth Norway (Naturvernforbundet) and Young Friends of the Earth Norway (Natur og Ungdom) were charged to pay 1.4 million Norwegian kroner of the states legal costs.
